These bills cruelly target transgender youth in Arkansas who are just trying to live their lives and access the care recommended by their doctors and supported by their parents. Trans youth just want to go to school and play sports alongside their friends. I oppose HB1570, which interferes with trans youth and their families from being able to seek and access the healthcare they need. Parents, patients, and medical professionals – not politicians – should decide what medical care is in the best interest of any young person. Transgender young people thrive when they are supported by their family, school, and community; however, this bill would take away their personal treatment options, undermining the prevailing recommendations of every major medical association. I oppose SB354 because it needlessly targets trans women and girls in sports when lawmakers cannot even point to a single trans woman currently competing in Arkansas. It sends a harmful message to trans youth that they don’t belong and will invite costly litigation from private parties and the federal government. All of these bills will cost the state hundreds of millions of dollars in lost tourism and business revenue. And most significantly, I am worried for my trans loved ones should these bills become law. Please stop this bill and veto any version of these bills that reach your desk. Hi folks, If you don't already have H.R.1 on your radar, I'd like to put it there. H.R. 1 is a house bill to make much-needed democracy reforms. Among provisions in the bill: * Automatic & same-day voter registration * Voting rights restored for felons who have served their sentences * Prohibit voter roll purges * Mandates independent (non-partisan) re-districting commissions * Creates a donation match for small-donor donations More info about the bill, in simplified form: https://democracyreform-sarbanes.house.gov/sites/democracyreform.house.gov/… This is not a finance bill, and cannot pass through reconciliation. The likeliest path for this bill is to die in the Senate via filibuster. Ending the filibuster is a pre-requisite to passing any of the important bills on the Democratic agenda, including H.R.1, infrastructure bills, climate protection, DC and Puerto Rico statehood, etc... But, this bill needs to be popular enough to force the fight. What can you do? It's important to make sure that legislators know that this bill is popular and that voters want it passed. CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES. Every house rep has already co-sponsored this bill. Thank your rep for their support and encourage them to keep up the fight.
