I've received several requests for final recs for the 2020 election. What are best things to do now as the election is less than 6 weeks away?
---------------------------
To figure out how to apply my own time and money effectively to this election, I've been talking to folks who work in campaigns from the Dem side. I'm also in a donor group that researches and meets reps of high impact orgs. Based on that, a couple of takeaways:
How to use your money: Underfunded opportunities abound.
The link above is a "fund" I put together based on a couple calls with folks who track Dem Senate races carefully, and a bit of my own research. I think Al Gross and Theresa Greenfield are the highest impact per marginal dollar spent here... but hard to know and Dems have to win NC and ME in a defensive case (but ME is extremely well funded) to control the Senate (think Supreme court!).
There is a lot of cautious optimism that Dem turnout and a strong Biden finish could flip statehouses that yield huge congressional gains, and some presidential gains, after redistricting and reducing voter supression. This could make the US house of reps almost untouchable for R's for the next 10 years:
Forward Majority is a favorite group that is smart and cost effective. If you support, please use a link from the fundraiser I held
https://go.forwardmajority.org/zoomraiser2. Statehouse wins in NC or AZ where they are competing will stop new voter suppression, improve congressional maps, and help move those states permanently into the Blue column... they are also competing in FL and TX.
I also just sat in on a Texas Dems statehouse call... if Biden finishes strong I'm now convinced the Texas House is winnable. Here is a link to support that cause... funds go right to candidates:
https://go.texashdcc.com/a/flip-the-texas-house.
The Texas statehouse is a bigger bet, with a bigger prize: ~8 Dem house seats for 10 years due to fairer districts. There is very little investment in these house races right now... R's are outspending D's like 3-1 but lots of districts that are flippable (ie Hillary won). These are within reach.
Final key message: now is the time to donate, not a few weeks from now!
How to use your time:
There are so many things to do with your time, it's hard to choose. Lots of good options!
A friend wrote this very specific set of recs which are spot on:
Please share this email with whoever you think might be interested. 40 days to go!
No regrets on Nov 3,
Matt
