Hi folks,

Hope you're doing well! Wanted to share an easy & potentially highly impactful climate action opportunity for San Francisco for this week.

This week SF is voting on a budget, and
we have a chance to get $11 million for a San Francisco Climate Action Plan.
More context & details/action options below via my friend Rachel.

1. Sign this petition
2. Call your city supervisor & ask for their support: talking points/sample script in the petition (interactive tool to find your district)
3. [superhero fancy option] Record a < 1 min video to be played at the meeting by Wed June 22. Instructions at the end of the email.

If you do any of these things/share this email, would love to hear about it—all the ripples are so inspiring!

P.S. I know this list has been a bit quiet & originally more focused on giving than on climate. If you have thoughts on better organization/coordination (e.g. wanna join a climate-specific action/event email list? wanna post on more topics/invite more friends to this existing list? want another virtual/in person meetup on giving/activism/etc topics?), I'm all ears!

More details/context from Rachel:

Basically, it's 11 million that is needed to fund the beginning of the city's Climate Action Plan.  It got left out of the general budget, so we have to fight for it to be added back in before the budget is finalized, otherwise we just have a city-declared climate emergency and....no plan or $$ to deal with it! This is a super great leverage pt!

If we can get across that it's important, this will help fund commercial building climate retrofits, environmental justice grants, and vehicle electrification.  The letter also advocates for cleanup around the Hunter's Point Shipyard.

If you want to take it one step further than that, you can submit a video for public commentary. This will probably have an outsized impact!  It needs to be a minute or less and submitted by Wednesday.

Video submission instructions:

the city put up a special page for comment day at https://sfbos.org/sites/default/files/2022_Budget_Public_Comment_Day.pdf
One interesting bit says they allow videos but note the deadline.

Videos/Documents to be shown during an individual’s comment time must be submitted 48 hours in advance (no later than Wednesday, June 22, 2022), in order to be tested and vetted beforehand. The A/V system in the Chamber does not work with the hybrid system; any documents brought on the day of will not be displayed. Email Videos/Documents to: bos.legislation@sfgov.org with the name of the individual who will be requesting it to be displayed when it is their turn in line. Videos should be no longer than one (1) minute and will be played in-lieu of the Remote Callers verbal comments.
