[hope this is sufficiently relevant to this mailing list! and some of you
may receive this email twice or already be involved with 30friends--thank
you!]
Hi folks,
Usually this time of year quite a few of us would be on Playa!
Some folks from my camp Starbarf have decided to* pivot our usual Burning
Man camp-building efforts to organize for the November election instead*
[1].
This week we're holding a few workshops at Virtual Burning Man to share
what we've learned. We want to *inspire & help other Burning Man camps to
organize for increasing voter engagement *(Burners Organizing Burners, some
info here, more coming soon: https://30friends.mailchimpsites.com/)
Current schedule is *3 workshops, MWF 6pm PST this week* (yes everything is
very immediate in true playa spirit...).
*If you or anyone in your camp/network wants to learn more and maybe join a
workshop this week, please let me know / share this message! *We're hoping
to reach 500 camps :)
If you know anyone leading similar efforts, please connect us--we're
looking for existing initiatives and haven't found anything yet.
The broad goal is to leverage the amazing collaborative organizational
skills and value alignment of Burners to help save our democracy. We'll be
continuing the effort beyond the week of the Virtual Burn of course, and
there are many many ways to get involved.
An easy one is to sign up for weekly action emails through 30friends here:
https://30friends.mailchimpsites.com/
With all my active hope,
Stacey
P.S. Happy to answer any questions! I realize this is a last minute and
really appreciate your time and any connections you're willing to make.
[1] This effort became 30friends, a group of campmates + friends who have
been phone banking, helping with design/branding/outreach, and basically
working with existing organizations and campaigns as much as we can to get
more people to vote, support vote-by-mail, turn more states/seats blue, and
do everything in our power to prevent 4 more years of Trump.
I trust Matt! And this org looks cool. Zoom call Tue 6pm.

> TL;DR: I’d love to invite you to a brief Zoom chat with a friend who leads one of my favorite organizations, Forward Majority. All you need to join the call is interest in a more fair democracy and an hour to listen while you cook or do whatever else you might be doing at 6pm next Tuesday Sept 1 PDT.

> Now more than ever, we need a fair democracy in which everyone can vote and each vote counts the same.
>
> Instead, district maps are drawn by the majority party in state legislatures, and insane levels of gerrymandering by the GOP have resulted in perversions of democracy. For example, in Texas, Democrats get ~47% of the vote but only hold 36% of congressional seats. Texas state reps have made it harder for people of color to vote, and concentrated them into districts that reduce their voice.
>
> Forward Majority zeros in on winnable but neglected state races that have the best chance of flipping entire statehouses - giving Democrats the authority to block voter suppression laws and stop undemocratic gerrymandering before it’s locked in for another 10 years in 2021.
>
> Forward Majority's team is made up of presidential-level campaign talent who create and deploy cutting edge, and hyper-cost-effective campaigns via digital and other paid media. Their model specifically focuses on under-resourced races, where they use an aggressive, data-driven strategy to take risks where Democrats have largely failed to invest.
>
> I support them because they are data driven, scrappy, and extremely resource efficient. And because they carefully measure, and achieve results.
>
> I would love for you to learn more. Please join me on Tuesday Sept 1 at 6pm Pacific time for an informational Zoom with Forward Majority. We’ll hear from Vicky Hausman, who founded Forward Majority in 2017.

Hi folks,
My friend Steven is a wonderful and very thoughtful human who started a
mailing list for sharing resources/actions/conversations around racial
justice. So far it's been low-traffic and new content for me, and I thought
some of you may be interested.
Thanks,
Stacey

Subject: In case you missed it... a social justice list to help us do better
To:
Hello friends far and wide,
This might have come your way already, but I wanted to send it once more
just in case it missed you.
To help keep myself and others informed and accountable for ongoing support
of racial justice causes, I made a new email list which you are welcome to
join here: https://lists.riseup.net/www/subscribe/socialjusticebulletin
This is a moderated distribution list started in an effort to promote
*conversation* and *action* among friends, family, and colleagues,
especially those who recognize their privileges and want to do better to
show up for racial justice.
Once you open the signup link <https://scrane.link/SJList>, just put your
email in the main box that looks like this:
You don't need to make an account/password.
It won't be high traffic: probably once a week or so.
I know there's a wide spectrum of experiences out there. Many of you are
far more advanced in action and knowledge in the racial justice area, and
from you, I welcome all your corrections and feedback and inspiration. And
for those who are "racial-justice skeptical" but are open to good-faith
discussion and curious inquiry, I welcome your questions and I hope to help
you make progress in this area.
Sincerely,
Steven
